It’s okay, don’t be sorry

Sorry to bug you again, reporters… NOT!

In fact, I’m not sorry at all thanks to my new plugin, which is literally called Just Not Sorry.

It’s a Chrome extension that points out qualifiers, hesitations and other words that undermine your professionalism. I recently sent out 56 public records requests (eek), and I need to stay on the ball, getting people to do the work on their end.

I have a bad tendency to say things like, “Sorry to make you do more work, but…” or “I hate to ping you again, but…”

The Just Not Sorry extension points these out with a friendly orange underline, so I can decide whether to leave it in or simply cut it out.

The downside is, the underlines sometimes appear so far down that they cover up other words – but that’s a pretty minor detraction. This tool comes from Ren LaForme’s great Try This! newsletter.

As with pretty much all extensions, I would recommend installing it and seeing if it works for you. It might even be enlightening just to see how often it kicks in and where. Be strong, reporters!
