TweetDeck

Today is a sad day. Today, Yellow TweetDeck dies.

Yellow TweetDeck was the original TweetDeck, an Adobe Air app or a mobile app that dates back to some of the early days of Twitter. Today, it is officially being discontinued.

But the good news is, a new TweetDeck is taking its place.

It’s Blue TweetDeck!

Blue TweetDeck is cloud-based, and it tends to crash a little more. (In some cases, a lot more.) But it’s got really powerful search tools built in, and I love how you can make columns in it. A lot of reporters I know use those columns to follow specific lists of accounts — celebs, other beat writers, etc — that they don’t want to clutter their main stream.

You can download the new TweetDeck — for web, desktop or Chrome — right here.

I’d also recommend checking out this presentation by CNN’s Victor Hernandez. It’s a really good walkthrough about all of new TweetDeck’s powers.

And if you’re looking to change to a completely different (but also free) Twitter tool, consider the Twitter for Mac app, which just got a redesign two weeks ago. It’s now far easier to tweet pictures from the app, and it’s much more attractive on Retina displays.

You can download it here.

Now get out there and tell some great stories today!
