Silencer

Update: The link to Silencer is inactive.

If you’re like me, there’s nothing more disruptive to your work then logging into Twitter or Facebook on a Sunday night and seeing all sorts of stuff about “Game of Thrones.”

Now, I don’t watch that show. (Sorry, sorry — don’t be mad!) But it seems like everyone I know does watch, and they take over all my social media streams on Sunday nights. I’m just looking for good stuff to read, and their posts overwhelm my feeds.

So this is a really exciting new tool: Silencer. It can filter out any phrase, hashtag or — and this the best part — person out of your Twitter or Facebook feed.

Want to remove all those Oscars tweets from your feed? Done.

Want to get every Throwback Thursday post off of Facebook? Done.

Want to quietly hide every update from a friend or colleague you can’t unfollow? Done and done.

The tool is really new — it just launched Sunday night — and it’s still a little buggy. But if you’re trying to clean up your feeds so you can get to the good stuff, it’s worth a test drive.

Sign up for Silencer right here — it’s free!

One More Thing

Next week, I’m going to write about RSS readers that are worth your time. But I want to know: Are there any RSS readers you absolutely LOVE? Let me know what you’re using — I’ve got some suggestions of my own, but I’d love to hear what you use every day, too!

Now get out there and tell some great stories today!
