MagicRecs

About a week ago, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo tweeted about a top secret project that they were launching publicly — but quietly. The tool is called Realtime Recs.

Here’s how it works: You follow the Realtime Recs account — @MagicRecs — and it starts searching through the tweets that are happening among people you follow. If there’s a lot of activity around a particular user or a tweet, @MagicRecs sends you a direct message with a heads up. (It’ll send up to three DMs a day, max.)

Here’s why it’s awesome: One big problem with Twitter is that there’s no easy way to catch up on what you’ve missed. If you’re out reporting a story and something big happens on Twitter, you’re going to miss it.

But now, @MagicRecs is there to catch it. It’s there to tell you that a tweet is going viral among the people you follow. It’s there to tell you that there’s a lot of activity around a particular Twitter user.

It’s the thing watching your Twitter stream when you can’t watch it.

All you have to do is follow @MagicRecs on Twitter to start. Test it out — it might catch something on Twitter that you’d otherwise miss!

Now get out there and tell some great stories today!
