Stuff I Really Like This Week

Update: Vine has been discontinued.

1. Vine is a wonderful thing, but there’s a secret hack that turns a Vine into a GIF. Take an amazing Vine. Grab the URL. Add the word “GIF” to the front of the URL.

So http://vine.co/v/whatever becomes http://GIFvine.co/v/whatever.

And that will automatically turn your Vine into an amazing GIF like this:

2. Somewhere along the way, Gmail decided to make email signatures more awesome. Now you can bold text, add color, or even add an image or URL to your email signature. (Go to Settings >General to change your signature.)

I say this especially to the many students on this list: This is something you should take advantage of. Your email signature should help potential employers get to you and your online profiles quickly. Just don’t overdo it. A phone number, a Twitter account, and a portfolio (or another project you’re proud of) will do.

3. The Shorenstein Center at Harvard has a 95-page report out about covering Presidential campaigns in the age of Twitter. Read it, and share it with your colleagues. (Especially colleagues skeptical about the rise of new digital platforms.) It’s well worth your time.

And get out there and tell some great stories today!
