Tell stories at the speed of sound

Welcome to August, reporters! Last week we delved into pretty sketchy territory, so this week we’re gonna stick to a nice little tool you can use right out of the box: SoundCite.

SoundCite lets you embed bits of audio in your story – right there in line with the text.

Like all plugin-type tools, there’s the caveat that SoundCite might not work with your CMS. You’ll need to check into that before it fails and you get all frustrated.

But it makes for a pretty seamless multimedia experience, and it’s super easy to put together. Tyler Fisher made it while a student at Northwestern’s Knight Lab, and since then it’s been used by radio stations, magazines and a sweet NYT story about hard-to-find blues music.
