Secret secrets are so much fun

Welcome to another TFR, reporters! It’s a scary world out there, and you’ve likely heard talk about journalists needing to protect themselves with encryption and the like.

Unfortunately, encryption and digital security are complicated, fraught topics and I don’t have space to properly cover them here. Fortunately, there’s an encryption tool for the everyman/woman: Signal.

It’s pretty nifty, it’s easy to install in iOS or Android, and it’s recommended by Edward Snowden of all people. Like every encryption software, it also comes with serious pro’s and con’s, but enough journalists have recommended it that I feel comfortable without delving into the nitty gritty.

Plus, you can set your messages to detonate (okay, just disappear) after a set number of seconds, so it feels extra secret 🕵️

One more thing...

Speaking of secrecy, do you know how much information Google has about you? Here’s how you can find out.
