Government officials take the longest lunch breaks

Happy Pi Day, reporters! I’m still catching up after NICAR, so I’m gonna make this short and sweet:

I spend a lot of time calling sources, and a depressing amount of time getting no answer. This means I have to try again in an hour, or at 2pm after Jim is back from his lunch break, or whatever the case may be.

And there are a huge number of apps that can ping me – gcal, Evernote, Reminders – but they’re all a little too labor-heavy for when all I need is a popup saying, “call the sheriff back now.”

So I broke my own rule and actually paid for an app: it’s $3.99 and it’s called Gestimer. And it’s exactly what I wanted.

You drag a little icon down from your menu bar, just far enough in the future when you want a ping.

One downside is, you can only set a reminder for a max of 5.5 hours in the future – so, no reminders tomorrow morning, for instance.

But it’s perfect for when you just need to be reminded to call someone back, or dial into a conference call, or go eat some pie before Pi Day is a thing of the past 🍰
