Googling news innovation

Hello again, reporters! This TFR is a little self-promotional:

I’ve joined the Society of Professional Journalists as a Google News Lab trainer. This means I travel to universities, newsrooms, and other organizations to spread the gospel about free digital tools for making journalism better.

I dig Google’s suite of news tools because they’re free, easy to figure out and surprisingly powerful. This morning I took 360ΒΊ VR photos with WWNO New Orleans. This afternoon I’m flying to Miami to teach Google Maps at FIU.

The best part is, it’s totally free, in-person training!

Google underwrites the program while SPJ organizes it. Check out the guide on SPJ’s website. All you have to do is request a training session through this form, and one of these kickass trainers will come to your newsroom, classroom, living room or wherever πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ«

One more thing...

Think your portfolio could use a little work? Make it shine with either one of these tools.
