It’s pronounced “gif”

Happy Mardi Gras, reporters! 🎭

I’m flying off to NICAR immediately after Mardi Gras, hangover be damned, so I thought I’d share a tool I just used for my presentation.

I used GIPHY Capture, a Mac desktop app, to record a part of a YouTube video and add it in my Google Slides as a gif. For non-Macbookers, Recordit does roughly the same.

Giphy also has an online Gif Maker, where you can make a gif out of a photo or a video, rather than recording it live. And, of course, there’s their dizzying array of readymade gifs to pick from.

Gifs are important, whether you like em or not. They catch people’s attention more than static images – and, god knows, far more than text. Go forth and gif!
