Fishing for names, fishing for nicknames

Welcome back, reporters. Today we’re talking about one of my favorite activities – investigating people online. You may have heard that IntelTechniques, an OSINT fave and TFR classic, has been taken down 😔

When that happened, I realized it had been quite a while since I updated my people searchers. With that I present to you namecheckr.

Namecheckr is a website that, simply, checks a lot websites for usernames. Let’s say you’re backgrounding a guy named Doug Jones. Namecheckr will find all the profiles on Twitter, Tumblr, etc., etc., etc., with the username “djones.” Helpful! Obviously, try it with all the various emails and usernames he has.

It’s no replacement for IntelTechniques, which could do a heck of a lot more than that, but it’s a new one to me. I learned about it from the NYT’s Dox Yourself workshop, which you should maybe check out when you have time. Go fishing, reporters!
