Welcome to May, reporters! I recently used a tool called Hypothes.is, which allows you to make annotations on live webpages.
That’s not a new idea by any means, but what stuck out to me was that you can send it to collaborators very easily. When you annotate a webpage, it create a custom link, starting with “https://via.hypothes.is/”, that you send to other people.
I can see how this would be helpful for sharing research with editors, keeping track of your own research, or even narrowing down a link to a specific quote.
I used it for my class, where we studied story format in this Dallas Morning News article. In fact, you can go here to see my marked-up version, and even keep annotating it yourself! You just have to create a Hyptohes.is account.
I wish the visuals were a bit more slick – the design seems a bit bare and clunky. But it certainly works, and easily, and you know, what more can we really ask for? Good luck in your web surfing!
