Hello from Keene, New Hampshire, where I am at the Radically Rural conference. I shared 50 (!) tools this morning with attendees, so I was sitting here trying to decide which one to share with you today.
But then I saw this tweet and my decision was made. Descript, if you haven’t heard of it before, turns audio into text – and then turns that text into nicer audio. Smooth!
Basically, it quickly transcribes your audio file and then, when you edit the text, it edits the audio accordingly! I’ve watched transcription evolve over the last six years (egad) of writing this newsletter, and Descript is a giant leap forward, technologically.
Plus they actually came up with a new and fun name for an app, which is a rare distinction. Descript is miles and miles better than Audacity, which was the last audio editor I recommended on here (skip it).
You can transcribe and edit up to three hours of audio for free per month, which is a lot, unless you’re making a whole documentary. Make that podcast, reporters!
