Hello, reporters! There is a lot going on right now, so I decided to share a nice, simple, friendly little tool from NPR.
Quotable is a tool that has been on my TFR to do list forever (my link is from 2014!) and I simply just never got around to it. It’s a “Lunchbox” tool, meaning it’s a free open-source tool released by NPR.
Quotable makes colorful, hopefully eye-catching, images out of quotes. Making text stories more appealing to Twitter scrollers has always been a challenge, and Quotable is one way to address that.
It also has a twin called Factlist that displays a bulletpoint list instead of a quote. The amount of text that it can fit is limited, but that’s kind of the point.
The tools are part of a set that NPR released for other journalists, so I’m not sure why you can’t turn off the NPR logo. That seems kind of strange. But if you do want to use it, I guess you crop out the logo or tweak the open-source code here. If you can’t get a visual, reporters, make your own!
