I have one hot off the press for you, reporters! Earlier this year, I worked with MuckRock and the Associated Press’ Local News AI team to create a whole new product: a tool that monitors, scrapes and sends alerts based on documents!
DocumentCloud is already one of the best journo tools out there, and recently MuckRock added a new set of tools called add-ons.
One in specific, the scraper, is a magnificent beast. It monitors websites for new documents, saves them into DocumentCloud and searches for terms like “layoffs” or “mask mandate.” When it finds that word (or an even more specific search), you get an email!
You do need to have a verified account to use it, so if you’re new to DCloud entirely, you can find MuckRock’s instructions from this year’s IRE conference. I also made a tipsheet and video for the AP’s AI Readiness Workshops. Huzzah for new tools!
