One way to escape doom scrolling

Hello, reporter friends! This week I have a rec for you straight from the ONA Conference. The Light Phone is an interesting little device that serves as a (severe) counterbalance to our powerful smartphones.

The Light Phone is a real, physical device that will only allow you to do a small set of tasks. Like calling, texting, and looking up maps. No social media, no email, no notifications – just (gasp) a phone!

Their tagline is “There are so many things that the Light Phone cannot do.” Pretty funny, actually.

To be honest I have not actually bought and tried a Light Phone yet – I just heard about it from the inimitable Jeremy Caplan last week. But it seems like a very intriguing option for productivity, security or privacy. I would love if someone tries it out and reports back!

Especially if you find yourself doom scrolling lately, escape that social feed, reporters!
