Track legislation using AI

Hey reporters! Lately I’ve been using a tool called BillTrack50, an impressive AI-powered resource for finding and tracking legislation in the US.

For example, are you following an interesting bill in your state? Like this one regulating AI-generated FOIA requests? Find the bill text, its sponsors, an AI-generated summary, or use the Similar Bills button to identify similar initiatives in other states.

The power of BillTrack50 is that it doesn’t just search for keywords in bills, like “artificial intelligence” or “public records requests.” It uses AI technology to assign a number to a piece of content and pair that with matching numbers. A list of Similar Bills will include a similarity score.

I think of this as a great example of using AI responsibly and in a helpful way. Of course you can also use BillTrack50 to simply monitor, search or share state bills in general.

It covers both state legislatures in the US and federal laws in Congress. They offer a free tier for searching current bills, but you the paid tiers are much more expensive and allow you to research earlier years. Keep an eye on your state, reporters!
