Dorking around

Hello, reporters. Recently I found a tool called NimbusQuery, recommended by the OSINT Ambition newsletter.

NimbusQuery has a cool name (is it Harry Potter related? not sure) but a pretty simple offering: it suggests “dorks” for you to use. Not the people, but pre-constructed advanced search queries.

But what made me take notice of NimbusQuery is that it uses the Google “site:” filter on Amazon AWS – one of the biggest web hosting services in the world. In all my years of dorking, it never occurred to me to search AWS itself.

Now, to burst the bubble that might be forming in your mind, AWS content is pretty locked up tight. I searched for my name, in quotes of course, and only found one result. Same for Tools for Reporters.

Still, I like it because it reminds me of the old days of searching for your name in Excel files and things like that. You never know what you’ll find.

Also, a quick note – the last TFR recommended WatchFramebyFrame, which my co-author Mike Reilley notified me is now down. Alas! If you are interested in other cutting edge AI tools, though, check out Mike’s newsletter JournalistsToolbox.ai.
