Hello, reporters near and far! We’ve got a short profile of a tool this week, to make way for a small announcement:
TFR will be switching from a weekly to a biweekly newsletter while I look for sponsorship opportunities for it. If you know an organization interested in sponsoring a popular newsletter for journalists (e.g., helping defray costs in exchange for advertising or partnerships), please get in touch!
Until then, let’s kick off our new biweekly schedule with a little tool called web-capture. Basically, when you want to take a screenshot of something, but it doesn’t fit in your window, web-capture captures the whole page for you. You can then crop or edit as needed.
Besides TFR, I write a newsletter for a group called Hacks/Hackers, and often want to embed tweets in there. MailChimp won’t embed tweets (ugh), and you may not have noticed, but tweets with pictures and videos are actually so big they don’t fit in a browser window.
Zooming out can mess with the formatting and text size, so I mainly use web-capture just to make screenshots of tweets. But you can use it for anything – schedules, social media feeds, festival lineups. They also have a sister site, Page2Images, which can simulate a page on a mobile device.
That’s it for now. Again, if anyone knows a cool journo organization interested in collaborating with a cool journo newsletter, feel free to send ideas my way.
See you in two weeks!
