Hi, reporters! This is a very basic (and kinda one-use) tool, but I used it extensively for my last post, so I figured I might as well share it.
Skitch is an Evernote spinoff that offers image annotation tools. The most valuable is the Pixelate function.
Shockingly, some the most popular image editors, like Apple Photos and Snapseed, do not let you highlight text and pixelate it. PhotoShop technically does, but you have to apply filters that I find confusing.
Pixelating text looks substantially better than other redaction options, like black bars, at least IMO. I’ve used Skitch a lot for posting sensitive photos to social media, or, like last week, when I wanted to show how to use DB Fiddle without actually showing the data I was working on.
It might feel kinda dumb to download an app for just one use, but Skitch is free and it does offer other stuff like text boxes and screen captures. Hide your text, reporters!
