Hello, reporters! I’ve understandably been getting a LOT of questions about AI over the past year.
My stance is that I will of course be recommending tools that are AI-informed. But I won’t share ones that are still in a testing stage, seem like they won’t last long, or, obviously, don’t seem reliable or ethical. So! Let’s start with a relatively low-stakes option.
Canva, which I have recommended before, now offers an AI generator for images. It creates an illustration from a detailed prompt straight from your imagination. Canva gives the example of “a panda riding a bike through a city with depth of field.”
To use this “Magic Media” feature (as they’re calling it) you need to enable it like an add-on to your free account. I tried “the best technology in the world” to see what it would turn out for my Top Tools of 2023 post.
I’m recommending this tool because it carries much less liability than AI generation for story research. You don’t want to be one of those reporters who later finds out ChatGPT made up a bunch of stuff… unfortunately, we’ve all probably heard those horror stories.
We’ve now done illustrations twice this month, so we’ll move onto another topic next. Try new tools, reporters!
