It’s okay to be bad at social media

Happy Valentine’s Day, reporters❣️

I don’t know if anyone here is an active TFR Twitter follower, but before JC came on board, you may have noticed we did not have much of a social media presence. That’s because when it comes to social promo, I could not, as the British would have it, be arsed.

But! That may be changing thanks to my first dance with Canva, an online tool for making shareable and mostly painless images and posters.

You just pick a template, fill in your text and download it.

Canva is better than other tools I looked at because it has a better selection of images and layouts ready to go. Fair warning: when I first tried to download an image, it wanted to charge me $1… but then it didn’t. So it should be free.

My first creation, while nothing to write home about, is a heck of a lot better than staring anxiously at MS Paint for an hour or two. Visuals are not my strongpoint.

And as much as I gripe about social media promotion, I freely admit that it’s terrific for upping engagement on your stories, so try to put yourself out there. Canva is also great if you’re trying to promote events, make some text more appealing or just up your Instagram game.
