Have you reddit yet?

Greetings, reporters! If you missed the last TFR, look in your Spam folder. 😔 It was about annotating a live webpage, so if that sounds like your kinda thing, you should go look for it.

Today’s tool was inspired by The Economist’s AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit last week.

Reddit is an interesting little nugget of the Web – I don’t see journalists use it much, but it’s a sprawling network with antennae in many parts of the world. For instance, The Economist’s post was on a sub called r/dataisbeautiful. That’s a forum, just one part of the site, with 15.8 million users discussing data visualization.

But beware! Unlike other platforms like Twitter, on Reddit you are beholden to moderators – regular users, not employees – who can cut you off from their 23.2 million subscribers if you piss them off.

It’s choppy waves out there for news orgs on Reddit, and I highly encourage you read Reddit’s guide for journalists before you jump in. But it can be an interesting place for finding sources, promoting your work, or just keeping up with the zeitgeist. Good luck out there!
