Is Google Search over?

Hi, all! You’re not supposed to write a headline with a question, but I do have a question.

Google Search has really fallen apart in the last year or so. It’s crazy. Of all the foundations of the web, I thought Google Search was solid – almost irreplaceable. But you may have noticed, as I have, that the results it gives are no longer relevant, lead to strange sites or have stopped appearing at all.

At the same time, some parts of Google Search, like Image Search for TikTok posts, seem wildly overpowered. So what’s going on?

There are several things, including what seems like Google’s haphazard implementation of its AI summaries. But I wanted to ask: Has anyone fully shifted to another search engine yet?

I have tried:

Of all of them, Startpage seems like the closest to what Google used to be. It accepts some of the same advanced search operators and seems to produce a lot of results – but it won’t tell you how many.

So: I’m curious about my fellow reporters, since we all do a lot of web searching. Has anyone truly moved away from Google yet? Let me know!
